Remove curse words from songs online

Need a clean version of a song for a party, a class, a workout or the background of a video? Upload the track and BleepItOut transcribes the vocals, marks the curse words with their timing and covers only those moments with a beep, silence or another sound.

Singing over music is harder to transcribe than speech, so the editor shows every flagged word before anything changes: play it, drop the false hits and add the words it missed.

How it works

  1. Choose the song file (MP3, WAV or M4A; a music video in MP4 or MOV works too) or drop it on the box above.
  2. Wait while the vocals are transcribed. The language is detected automatically; if it is wrong, pick the right one and check again.
  3. Go through the flagged words in the editor. Tap a word in the transcript to bleep it, tap a bleep to adjust or delete it, and drag across the timeline to cover a spot the transcript missed.
  4. Pick how to cover the words: a beep, silence, reversed or muffled audio, a built-in effect or a sound of your own.
  5. Render and download the clean version. The song keeps its length, and everything between the covered words is untouched.

What happens to the music under a covered word

BleepItOut does not split the vocals from the instruments. A beep or silence replaces the whole mix for the length of the word, usually a fraction of a second, which is exactly how radio edits sound.

Reversed audio plays that slice of the track backwards, so the beat carries on and the word cannot be made out. Muffled audio keeps the music audible but dulls the voice. Try each one on the same list of words and keep the one that sounds best.

Getting the best result

Clear vocals that sit above the music are found most reliably. Fast rap, heavy effects on the voice, choirs and loud guitars make words harder to catch, so expect to add a few by hand.

Listen to the whole track once before you download: the result is only as good as that review. Only edit recordings you have the right to edit.

Questions and answers

How do I make a clean version of a song?

Upload the song, review the curse words BleepItOut flags, choose a beep, silence or reversed audio and download the edited file. The rest of the track is left as it was.

What is a clean version of a song called?

Usually a clean version or a radio edit. Many songs have an official clean version, so look for one first; when there is none, you can make your own copy here.

Is it free to remove curse words from a song?

Yes, within the daily free allowance: 5 minutes of audio a day without signing up. The size and length limits are shown under the upload box.

Will the song keep its quality and length?

It keeps its length, and only the covered moments change. The audio is encoded again when the new file is saved, as in any audio editor.

Can it find every curse word in a song?

Not always. Singing, voice effects and loud instruments hide words from speech recognition, so some will be missed and a few ordinary words may be flagged. Play the flagged words and add the missing ones before you render.

Which song languages are supported?

English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. The language is detected automatically, and you can pick another one in the editor if it is wrong.
