Bleep out curse words in audio files and podcasts

A podcast episode, a voice message or a recorded call can hide a few curse words in an hour of talking. BleepItOut transcribes the audio, flags those words with their exact timing and covers only that moment, so the rest of the recording stays as it was.

Upload the audio below. MP3, WAV and M4A files are accepted, and nothing needs to be installed.

How it works

  1. Choose an MP3, WAV or M4A file, or drop it on the box above.
  2. Wait while the speech is transcribed. Clear voices close to the microphone give the best result.
  3. Read through the flagged words in the editor and play any of them to hear it in context. Remove false hits and add words that were missed.
  4. Pick the sound that will cover the words: a beep, silence or another sound.
  5. Render and download. Only the flagged moments change; the rest of the recording is left as it was.

What works best

Spoken audio does best: podcasts, interviews, voice notes, lectures and streams. A close microphone and one person talking at a time make detection more reliable, while background music and people talking over each other make it less so.

No detector is perfect. That is why every flagged word can be played and changed in the editor before anything is rendered.

Beep, silence or another sound

A beep makes it obvious that a word was removed. Silence is less noticeable and suits formal recordings. Another sound, such as a short effect, fits a comedy or casual show.

The options are a beep, silence, reversed or muffled audio, a built-in sound effect, or a sound file of your own. You can try each one on the same list of words.

Questions and answers

How do I remove swear words from a podcast?

Upload the episode, review the flagged words, choose a beep or silence and download the new file. Long episodes take longer, and the size and length limits are shown under the upload box.

Which audio formats can I upload (MP3, WAV, M4A)?

MP3, WAV and M4A all work. Video files are accepted too, if the audio you need is inside one.

Can I bleep a song?

Yes, but singing over music is harder to detect than speech, so expect a few missed words and wrong hits and check the list carefully before you render. The song guide explains how to get the best result; only edit recordings you have the right to edit.

Does the rest of the audio stay the same?

Yes. Only the moments you approve are replaced, and everything around them keeps its original sound and timing. The recording keeps its length.

Can I use silence or another sound instead of a beep?

Yes. Choose a beep, silence, reversed or muffled audio, a built-in sound effect, or upload a sound of your own.

How accurate is the detection?

It finds most swear words in clear speech, but it can miss some and flag a few that are fine. Play the flagged words and fix the list before you render; the result is only as good as that review.
